Elephant Populations Around the World

I am passionate about wildlife conservation and created a personal project that visualised population data of Asian and African elephants in the world. I was inspired by the work of information designer Federica Fragapane and wanted to develop my skills in data visualisation and infographics, so I decided to make designs that could accompany a magazine or news article on the subject.

I used the shape of an elephant’s tusk as a graphic representation of the population differences in each country, with the darker gradients showing the more recent populations. One challenge I encountered was the scaling of the tusks due to the vast differences or lack of data between countries, therefore I separated countries like India as the data was more consistent.
